Hojunara Australia Pty Ltd ("Hojunara", "we", "us") operates the Hojunara website and services (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information, and how you can access and correct it. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This Privacy Policy forms part of, and should be read together with, our Terms of Service; capitalised terms not defined here have the meaning given in the Terms of Service. By using the Service you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information we collect
a. Information you provide to us
When you create an account we collect the personal information you give us, which may include your email address, a password (handled by our authentication provider — we do not store your password in readable form), your nickname, phone number, profile image and your selected state/region. If you sign up with Google, we receive basic profile information (such as your name, email address and profile photo) from Google.
When you use the Service you may also provide content — such as listings, posts, comments, photos, job applications, resumes and private messages — and information you send us when you contact us for support or make an enquiry (for example by emailing info@hojunara.com).
When you purchase Points or advertising, our payment provider collects the payment details needed to process your payment. We do not store your full card number on our own servers.
b. Information we collect automatically
When you use the Service we automatically collect certain technical and usage information, including your IP address, device and browser type, operating system, language settings, referral URL, the pages and listings you view, your search queries, the date and time of your requests, and diagnostic data such as crash and performance information. We may derive your approximate location (for example, city or region) from your IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location from your device.
c. Cookies and similar technologies
We and our service providers use cookies, browser local storage and similar identifiers to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, measure and analyse how the Service is used, and to deliver and measure advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect how the Service works.
2. How we use your information
We use personal information to: create and manage your account and authenticate you; operate, maintain and improve the Service; display, sort and search listings and other content; process Points and payments; send push notifications and service or administrative messages; personalise content and display advertising; moderate content and enforce our Terms of Service, including detecting, preventing and acting on fraud, abuse, banned users and security issues; respond to your enquiries and provide support; and comply with our legal obligations. We will seek your consent before using your personal information for a materially different purpose, unless otherwise permitted or required by law.
3. When we disclose your information
We do not sell your personal information. We disclose personal information to the following categories of recipients:
a. Service providers who process information on our behalf, under contract and consistent with this Privacy Policy, including:
• Google / Firebase — authentication (including Google Sign-In), database (Cloud Firestore), file storage (Cloud Storage), serverless functions (Cloud Functions), push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase);
• Algolia — search indexing so listings can be searched;
• Stripe — processing payments for Points and advertising, and PayPal for shopping transactions;
• Google AdSense — serving advertisements on the Service.
b. Other users and the public — your nickname, profile image and any content you post to publicly accessible areas of the Service are visible to other users and visitors, as described in the Terms of Service.
c. Legal and safety reasons — we may disclose personal information where we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process or enforceable government request; to enforce our Terms of Service or investigate potential violations; to detect, prevent or address fraud, security or technical issues; or to protect the rights, property or safety of Hojunara, our users or the public.
d. Business transfers — if Hojunara is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, and we will give affected users notice before their personal information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Overseas disclosure
We store the core database in Australia. However, some of our service providers store or process personal information overseas, including in the United States (for example, certain Cloud Functions, Stripe, Algolia and Google services) and other countries in which those providers operate. By using the Service you acknowledge that your personal information may be transferred to, stored in and processed in these countries, consistent with our Terms of Service. We take reasonable steps to ensure recipients handle your personal information in a manner consistent with the APPs.
5. Information security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps include serving the Service over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections, applying database and storage access rules, and restricting access to personal information to people who need it to operate the Service. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, and meet our legal, accounting or reporting obligations. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where we are required or permitted to retain it (for example, for legal, fraud-prevention or dispute-resolution purposes). Residual copies may persist in backups for a limited period before being overwritten.
7. Accessing, correcting and deleting your information
You can review and update much of your account information directly in your profile settings, and you can delete your account. You may also ask us to access, correct or delete your personal information by contacting us using the details in section 11. We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request. We will respond within a reasonable time and, where we decline a request, we will tell you why. We aim to provide access and correction free of charge, except where a request is manifestly unfounded, excessive or would require disproportionate effort.
8. Advertising and direct marketing
The Service displays advertising, including through Google AdSense, which may use cookies and identifiers to show ads that are more relevant to you. You can manage or opt out of personalised advertising through your Google Ads settings and your device or browser settings. We may send you service announcements and administrative messages that are part of your membership; as noted in the Terms of Service, you may not be able to opt out of these. We will not use your personal information for unrelated direct marketing without giving you the ability to opt out.
9. Children
The Service is intended for users who are of legal age to form a binding contract, and certain areas of the Service are restricted to adults. The Service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
10. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date below. Where changes are material, we will provide more prominent notice and, where required, seek your renewed consent. We will not reduce your rights under this Privacy Policy without your consent.
11. Contact us and complaints
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, or wish to access or correct your personal information or make a complaint about how we have handled it, please contact us:

We will acknowledge and investigate your complaint and respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may refer your complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.
